Mzungu Groundnuts

While in Kaberamaido, someone pointed out a vine growing way up a tall tree with a pumpkin-like fruit hanging from it.  They told me the Kumam name for it, which roughly translates to "mzungu groundnut", a name which doesn't make that much sense, but hey, how many food names do?  Well, it turned out that the family there had some seeds (the edible part) to share, so I got to try them.

After doing some research online at home, I learned that this is called Telfaria, or oyster nut.  It originates from West Africa and the seeds are very oily and nutritious.  To me, they taste a lot like Brazil nuts.  They were a little tricky to open without smashing them, though!
