Tostones

I have shared these before, but they are just so much fun to make and eat!

Peel (using a knife) and slice cooking bananas like matooke or unripe plantains.  Then fry them on both sides in hot oil.


Let them cool just a tiny bit, then smash them with the bottom of a solid cup.


At this point, if you feel that they are sufficiently cooked (or want to be slightly healthier by using less oil), you can salt them and begin to eat.  Otherwise, fry them one more time before serving so they get crispy all over.
