Eating Out

Here are a couple of interesting restaurant experiences I've had recently.  First, food at a "Pork Joint".  Pork is a big thing in Soroti these days, though I'm not really sure why.  But anyway, you order the specific ingredients and amounts you want for your group and they bring out a big platter of it, which everyone eats from communally.  Here we have pork, fried potatoes, shredded cabbage, and a few tomatoes, onions, and peppers thrown in:

Then, there's Kenyan fast food.  It was pretty great.  You sit down in the restaurant, order your food, and it comes within a couple minutes.  I got cooked veggies and chapatti and they even brought some broth to go with it.

Finally, some Lebanese food at the food court at a mall in Kampala.  For me, it was a special treat.  I love how in a Ugandan food court, there are people working for the different restaurants hanging around and waiting for potential customers.  When someone arrives, they all come running to show their menu to you and try to get your business.  Then, you just order from the person who works from the place from which you want food, they run back to place your order, and you sit and wait for them to come deliver it to your table.  Very different from American food courts.
