Homegrown Cornmeal and Masa Flour

After growing maize in my garden this year, I dried it and then nixtamalized half of it.  I had it all ground at a grinding mill, making half into masa harina flour (left), and the other half ground as regular cornmeal (right).
 
 
I made homemade corn tortillas, then fried them into tortilla chips!

We enjoyed duck tamales as well.  First, I made dough out of masa flour, butter, and broth with duck meat mixed in.  After that, I rolled it up into balls and wrapped them in whole, boiled chaya leaves:



Then, I put all of them into a steamer basked in the pressure cooker and steamed them.  Here is the final product.  It might not look that pleasing, but they were surely tasty and it's fun to be able to eat the chaya wrapper:
