Sesame Chicken
Making sesame chicken in Kenya can only mean one thing. Yes, cooking another one of our chickens. But we appreciated her sacrifice to our kitchen very much. This was definitely a special treat for us to make at home.
First, you need cooked chicken, cut into pieces. We used an entire chicken which we cooked in our pressure cooker. When we cut up the chicken, it probably made around 4 cups.
Dip the chicken in 2 beaten eggs, then into flour mixed with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Fry the breaded chicken until it is cooked.
(Oh, and by the way, don't forget to be making rice so it's ready at the same time as the sesame chicken!)
In the meantime, make the sauce. Mix together:
1/2 c. water
1 c. chicken broth
1/4 c. vinegar
2 Tbs. + 1 tsp. sesame oil
5 Tbs. cornstarch
1/2 c. honey
2 Tbs. soy sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. When it is finished, pour it over the fried chicken and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
